We at VEB Ungelsheim evaluate offered LPs on the basis of a visual inspection and, if necessary, also by playing excerpts.
Our quality levels, following the world’s well-tested Goldmine rating scheme, the standard for record collectors, are thus:

Example:all records of the subcategory “German Bards” in virtually mint quality (“Near Mint”)
1. SS (still sealed)
* The record is new and still sealed.
2. M (mint)
* Record is new & unplayed.
* Cover shows no signs of use.
3. NM / M-(near mint / mint -)
* Record has been played but shows very minor signs of use at best.
* Cover and label are in excellent condition, neither written nor pasted.
4. VG+ (very good+)
* Disc has been played more often, but does not show any significant loss of quality.Small scratches are not audible, slight hiss or crackle may be heard on quiet parts.
* Cover has light wear but is not damaged.
5. VG (very good)
* Record was played frequently, has lost sound quality. Small scratches, slight hissing or crackling, but no cracking.
* Cover shows signs of wear, such as ringwear or light damage from removing a label.
6. VG- (very good-)
* Record has many light and some larger scratches that occasionally make a cracking sound. However, the record plays through, the tone arm does not jump.
* Cover is worn, possibly slightly torn or inscribed, label may also be inscribed.
7. G (good)
* Record has many scratches, crackles throughout and can only be enjoyed on true rarities. Again, the record plays through.
* Cover is heavily worn. torn or often labeled, the label may also be labeled.
8. POOR (P) Fair (F)
Record is cracked, badly warped or skips and/or repeats when you try to play it.
Cover is so badly damaged that you almost want to cry.
